services may be available at a rate of $150 per hour.
DOES NYI PROVIDE A CONTROL PANEL FOR DEDICATED SERVERS?
No. NYI initially installs an operating system. After
that the client, being the administrator of his/her machine(s),
is free to put any other software required.
IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MY SERVER THAT I CAN'T
SOLVE ON MY SIDE, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
The fastest way to take care of your problem is to login
to our Helpdesk online at http://hd.nyi.net and describe the
problem you are having in detail. This information will
be transformed into a trouble ticket and NYI's tech staff
will be notified about it immediately. WHAT'S NYI'S POLICY FOR SPAM?
NYI holds an anti-spam policy. That means that a service
may be terminated as a result of several complaints about
spamming from your server. CAN I UPGRADE THE PACKAGE DURING THE CONTRACT PERIOD?
Absolutely. NYI's Colocation solutions are flexible and
scalable. Just go to our Upgrade
Center to add on whatever services you are interested
in. WHAT IS THE CONTRACT LENGTH?
NYI offers monthly contracts. This is one of many displays
of our unmatched flexibility with customers.
WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE?
NYI provides 24/7 network support and Level 1 support
for the clients that is operated through our online Help
Desk system. HOW DOES THE 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE WORK?

you can cancel the service and receive a full refund.
Please note that setup fees are non-refundable.
DOES NYI PROVIDE STATISTICS FOR BANDWIDTH USAGE?
Yes - all Colocation and Dedicated Server clients can
view their bandwidth statistics here.
Please fill
out the request form to get the login information
to view your bandwidth stats. DOES THE CLIENT GET ROOT ACCESS?
Absolutely. We create a User Account for your machine
and give you the root password. You can create user accounts
for any domain name you transfer to that machine.
WHAT KIND OF NETWORK DOES NYI'S DATA CENTERS HAVE?
NYI's network is dual OC-48 based with direct links to
Uunet, Genuity, Digex, PSI, and Sprint. Read more here.
HOW DO I TRANSFER THE DOMAIN NAME CURRENTLY HOSTED
BY ANOTHER COMPANY TO YOUR SERVERS?
The domain name can be transferred to our name servers
through your Registrar (i.e. Network Solutions or Register.com)
and then pointed to your machine through our DNS that
we will supply you with. WHAT IS THE LEAD TIME ON GETTING SERVER INSTALLED
AND CONFIGURED?
Depends on what you pick for "Turnaround Time"
in the Quote
Generator. Anywhere from 48 hours to NOW...
DO YOU SUPPORT COLDFUSION?
Currently we do not support it, but you can surely have
it installed on your server. In fact, you can install
any 3rd party software you need on your server.
WHAT SOFTWARE IS INSTALLED ON A SERVER INITIALLY?
NYI installs Operating System and VNC (remote administration
software) for Windows servers. Also, at the time that
your order is placed, you will need to specify the services
you'd like installed and the partition scheme you'd prefer
in your installation. WHAT ARE THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS?
You can review our policy at http://www.nyi.net/policy.html
DOES NYI PROVIDE REMOTE MANAGEMENT CAPABILITIES
FOR WINDOWS SERVER?
Absolutely. NYI provides you with Remote Management (VNC)
software for your Windows Dedicated server. CAN I SELL SPACE ON MY DEDICATED SERVER HOSTED ON
NYI'S NETWORK?
The client is absolutely allowed to sell space on his/her
Dedicated Server. After the initial sign up, the client
becomes the exclusive administrator of his/her Dedicated
Server. That implies that a client can do whatever he/she
needs as long as it doesn't contradict NYI's policy.
CAN I HOST MULTIPLE WEBSITES ON ONE IP?
Absolutely. What happens is that when the web browser
connects to the web server, it includes the name of the
web site it is looking for. All web browsers written since
about 1996 are able to do this. The web server knows to
differentiate on any given IP Address the multiple virtualhosts
(called namevirtualhosts because they're based on the
name of the website being accessed), and serves the content
from the directory that was set up in the web server's
configuration file. CAN I RUN IRC SOFTWARE ON NYI'S DEDICATED SERVER?
NYI doesn't allow any kind of IRC Software on its servers.
It's against our policy.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN COLOCATION AND
DEDI-SERVER SOLUTIONS?
Dedicated servers are more entry level than colocation
solutions. One would get a dedicated server when they
require more customization than a simple virtual account
can offer. A colocation solution allows you to utilize
any hardware that is necessary in order to fulfill your
application's needs (whether it be dual processors, complex
raid configurations, etc.) Furthermore, if there are several
servers necessary to satisfy your needs, a colocation
solution would be more prudent as it allows you the flexibility
to set up your own network and migrate additional servers
in as needed. |
