The “Startup Guys” is a video series from College Humor that lovingly skewers the technology industry.
For those of us who have been in the business for a while (or what might seem like a while in Internet Time), “Startup Guys” captures all the craziness of tech entrepreneurship, from the whack company names (Brush Fire Media, Elephant Dungeon Enterprises, etc.) and the explosive word-salad of buzzwords (cloud-sourced integration field, brand-cuffs), SXSW references, to the quick slug of 5-Hour Energy that keeps our heroes wired to the gills (We all know extra juice is needed to stay on top of the next trend, arriving every few seconds via Twitter or email notification.).
By our count, Brush Fire morphs into at least five different companies in the course of this four-minute video. What’s also interesting is that these are clearly East Coast guys. For us, the tip-off is not the accent. It’s that they are showing sartorial chops with their matching designer suits. (No Zuck-style hoodies for these guys!)
But don’t take our word for it, check out the “Startup Guys” yourself. We suggest you start with the original video before moving on to the rest of their hilarious and painfully-accurate work. Business Insider also has an interesting analysis of what they do for further reading.
