NEW YORK, NY September 19, 2013—NYI (www.nyi.net), a New York company specializing in customized technology infrastructure solutions since 1996, has launched NYI Cloud, New York’s first secure, enterprise-class Cloud solution. Unlike competing offerings from Amazon, Rackspace and various other mainstream and specialty providers, NYI Cloud, thanks to infrastructure support from Peak (formerly PeakColo), offers the only New York VMware vCloud® Powered solution that delivers the performance, security and Business Continuity that New York businesses require.
The announcement comes as the first product launch from the partnership NYI announced with Peak back in January. It also comes as a wake-up call from a New York technology infrastructure pioneer. Until partnering with Peak, NYI’s commitment to excellence for such customers as RollingStone.com, USMagazine, Meetup.com, Asia Society, Opera Software and countless financial services firms made them reject the hype and inferior performance of consumer-grade, public Cloud solutions.
“We were not striving to be first-to-market,” says Phillip Koblence, COO, NYI. “Our goal is to continue the NYI tradition of excellence by being best-to-market. With this launch, we get beyond the hype to offer our customers a robust, safe and scalable solution that leverages the true value of the Cloud within a larger infrastructure strategy.”
“NYI has set a new standard,” said Luke Norris, CEO and Founder, Peak. “The passion, dedication to detail and commitment to customer quality puts them in a class of their own. NYI Cloud Powered by Peak is an enterprise Cloud offering that optimizes all the benefits of the hybrid model.”
Why Most Cloud Solutions Fail, Says Gartner
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, regulators have taken a hard look the true benefits of Cloud computing in the enterprise. What they have found is that apart from the friction-free efficiencies, pure-Cloud deployments do not comply with passable criteria for mission-critical infrastructure.
As Gartner Research vice president Jay Heiser said in Network World, “‘Gartner clients are almost universally disappointed’ by what they regard as the incompleteness in cloud-computing contracts where they still don’t see the level of specificity related to security they expect…cloud service providers aren’t as clear as they should be concerning matters such as their business continuity and disaster-recovery practices, making it hard to win customer confidence.”
How NYI, with Peak, Solves the Problem
NYI Cloud, powered by Peak’s vCloud® Powered platform, is a best-of-both-worlds solution that resolves Gartner’s issues with Cloud security.
How does it work? Business-critical infrastructure is deployed within a traditional facilities-based environment, while lower-sensitivity assets would be virtualized in an intelligent, interconnected vCloud that maps existing IPs and VLANs directly into a high-density layer 2 network topology.
“Our model is what InformationWeek‘s Charles Babcock calls ‘VMware’s vision of the future,'” said Koblence.”Or, if you prefer, it’s all the benefits of Cloud with none of the worry. For us, this is a game-changing development. It gives us a new portfolio of options–and a new standard of excellence–for crafting highly customized solutions.”
CORE BENEFITS:
1. Keep business-critical assets secure (SSAE 16, SOC 1 and 2 Type II, PCI, HIPAA compliant) with premier on-premise provider, who owns and operates all facilities.
2. Migrate lower-sensitivity assets to NYI Cloud, which is ideal for production and testing.
3. Leverage rich portfolio of options across Public and Private Clouds, with infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), software-as-a-service (SaaS) and storage-as-a-service.
4. Enjoy the cost savings of dividing infrastructure between on-premise and Cloud.
5. Enjoy the superior performance of a network whose interconnectivity maps existing IPs and VLANs directly into Cloud.
6. Leverage the global market presence of Peak’s network and the award-winning excellence of NYI’s on-premise expertise into a fully integrated, mature Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity solution.
“Hybrid Is Best,” Agree Gartner; Forbes
The takeaway of Gartner’s recent assessment of Cloud computing within the enterprise is as follows: “Gartner is advising clients in general to allow low-sensitivity data to be considered for cloud services; but if it falls in the ‘medium’ range of sensitivity, there’s a strong need to conduct a risk assessment. And if the data is of high sensitivity, it should not be considered feasible or permissible for cloud services.”
A recent article in Forbes echoes Gartner’s sentiments. After considering the security concerns of moving off-premise and the storage benefits of Cloud, David Nichols, principal and Americas CIO services leader for Ernst & Young IT Advisory Services, suggests that the hybrid approach offers “the best of both worlds” — the security of a facilities-based solution along with both off-site and off-site services that provide a “failsafe” model for enterprises.
